Description
Written in 1870 by noted French historian and journalist Paul Christian, The History of Magic was received as a standard work on the occult.

The book is written in two volumes, divided into books and chapters, beginning with Book One through Four: At the Gates of the Supernatural, beginning in 1572 with the massacre at St. Bartholomew, which caused Queen Catherine de Medici to surround herself with magicians and talismans in order to escape the guilt of the horrors she had caused.

What follows is a history of magic, including the Church and divination, the history of the word "magic", and the ancient theologies of India, Persia, Egypt and Europe.

Book Two: The Mysteries of the Pyramids

Book Three: The Ancient Oracles, the Sibyls and the Fates

Book Four: Magic from the Beginning of the Christian Era to the end of the Middle Ages

A fascinating study of the occult. - from Amzon
